What is the Suzuki method?
The Suzuki Method is a music education approach developed by the great Japanese humanitarian and educator Dr Shinichi Suzuki (1899 – 1999). It's a way of learning music that is based on the way all children learn to speak. If you think about the way a child learns to speak it's by listening, repeating, imitating, practising and remembering words. Just as children learn to speak in a language-rich environment, Suzuki believes that a music-rich environment develops musical enjoyment and ability. Suzuki is about:

  • learning in a way that's natural, fun and nurtures a love of music
  • developing concentration, memory and study skills
  • child and parent experiencing the rewards together
  • recognising that every child has ability, therefore every child experiences success.
